Bactria Cultural Centre (BCC) was created in December 2001 by the French humanitarian and development NGO ACTED to address the lack of access to culture, information and vocational training in Tajikistan. Since then it has become a focal point in the cultural life of Dushanbe. Cooperating with several embassies and donor organizations functioning in Tajikistan, BCC supports a wide variety of cultural activities and educational activities.
Bactria Culture Centre\ACTED Tajikistan Bactria Cultural Centre (BCC)/ ACTED seeks experienced, dynamic and highly motivated English language teacher to support Bactria Cultural Centre’s operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Security and Safety- Work in accordance with ACTED staff and security policies;
- Ensure the safety of teaching materials and BCC property (books, computers, TV set, audio sets, desks and chairs) following ACTED staff and security policies;
- Make sure the classroom is in good order (desks and chairs in place, whiteboard cleaned-up) at the end of each class;
- Make sure teaching materials are safe (all BCC teaching books must be collected back from students and the computer and TV set must be in functioning order).
- Be on time for the start of each class;
Session and class preparation- Assist BCC Language Course Coordinator in the making of language groups per language level, notably by preparing level tests one week before the start of the session registration period;
- Prepare weekly classes according to her/his schedule;
- Follow and respect the class schedule (changes included);
- Use Communicative and Interactive method of English language teaching;
- Use audio and video resources for all language levels;
- Search for, work out and use new teaching materials and contents aiming at improving the quality of teaching;
- Make sure not change the schedule of classes or transfer students from one group to another group without permission of BCC Language Course Coordinator.
- Instruct and motive students paying a special attention to slow learners
Follow-up of class activities- Assign homework and classwork and assist students in understanding different ways of working out assignments;
- Correct written exercises given to students as a homework;
- Organize monthly interim tests,
- Work out language examination tests one week before the final examination session, and provide them to students;
- Get prepared to the final examination session in due time;
- Correct interim and final examination tests;
- Attend teachers’ monthly meeting.
- Provide list of students and any updates in a timely manner
- Create the core English curriculum and determine the manners of implementing it at different levels
- Evaluate students individually, carefully charting out their weakness and provide them with extra assistance where required.
- Maintain student’s behavior by putting down ground rules and ensuring that they are properly followed
Management BCC- Provide a monthly activity report to BCC language coordinator and BCC director.
- Provide a copy of class register to BCC language coordinator
- Keep informed about any changes regarding the students’ numbers.
Minimum requirements:
- Super interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students and colleagues
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills
- Diploma of Higher Education from Teachers college/Pedagogical University
- Experience in teaching English language at least 2 years
- Deep understanding of the national curriculum and English Language requirement
- International certificate for teaching English language
- Accuracy in details, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members;
- Fluency in English, Tajik and Russian required.
- Ability to work in a team effectively and under pressure.
- Provide a DEMO lesson.
- Knowledge of various methods of teaching
